The Digital Docket: Categorical Feature Analysis and Legal Meme Tracking in the Supreme Court Corpus

Wayne McIntosh and Jimmy Lin are key investigators in the NSF funded Digital Docket project (http://www.umiacs.umd.edu/~digidock/), "a collaboration between University of Maryland's Government and Politics Department and the College of Information Studies, [which] aims to apply techniques from information retrieval and computational linguistics to the study of the U.S. Supreme Court." The Digital Docket project will address a range of issues, including source analysis, exploring the ways and byways through which a final Supreme Court opinion is shaped by the myriad written and oral presentations that go into its making, consistency of language by individual justices across legal issues and time, among others.

Wayne Macintosh is Associate Professor in the Departmen tof Government and Politics at the University of Maryland (http://www.bsos.umd.edu/gvpt/mcintosh/).

Jimmy Lin is Assistant Professor in the College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland (http://www.umiacs.umd.edu/~jimmylin/).
